Shared Web Hosting

Pros:
  • Very inexpensive
  • Server administration is handled by the provider

Cons:

  • Resources are shared
  • No control over software installed on the server

Shared webhosting is one server hosting many other websites which share the memory and processing resources of that server. This can impact your site if one of the other websites on the server suddenly gets a lot of traffic or starts using a lot of processing power. When this happens your site may seem a little sluggish or even very slow.

With a shared account the provider will manage the software and hardware of the server. You will only need to create your website and upload it to the server. Most businesses/websites don't need the power of a dedicated server and don't have the technical staff to manage one. This makes shared hosting the most popular option for hosting.

Start with a shared hosting plan if you are unsure of which hosting option to choose and upgrade to a or if your website becomes so large or busy that the performance of a shared host becomes a problem.
